He might be blind, but his blindness has not stopped him from earning a name for himself as a DJ and from being an inspiration to all people, those living with disabilities and those without.

Lebohang Victor Lebeoane from Seroalo Location also known as Kopi/Cup City or DJ Blind as he is known by his stage name, plays at local and government events and specializes in Afro-house and commercial music. He ventured into music in 2014 while still attending school at Bartimea School for the Deaf and Blind in Thaba Nchu.

DJ Blind comes from a musical family. His brother is passionate about music and this rubbed off on DJ Blind. When working as a DJ he uses a special turntable called a controller, connected to a laptop, It has text-to-speech ability which enables him to hear sounds and organize his music accordingly.

He moves songs from a music folder on his laptop to the virtual DJ music software, arranges them numerically and uses a controller turntable to play music which will be connected to the speakers via a laptop and turntables.

DJ Blind explained that he switches off text-to-speech when playing as it irritates his audience but he prepares his music play list in advance on Virtual DJ before going on stage, so that he can easily know which song comes first and when to mix and play the next one.

He practices weekly and music helps him to meet a lot of people. The support for his talent has been overwhelming.

“People should not undermine themselves based on their circumstances. When you have a talent, work on it and make it grow,” said DJ Blind.

You can find DJ Blind on TikTok and on Facebook at “DJ Blind”.
