Beezy FM, a Qwaqwa-based online radio station, is experiencing significant growth and success. Just a few months after going on air, the station has already earned national recognition, with its presenter, Mo Simela, winning the “Best Online Presenter” award at the inaugural Community Radio Awards.
Founded by Nkunyana Nkunya, known as DJ Skuzabel, Beezy FM first broadcasted on 1 March 2025, and has quickly attracted an impressive audience of 139,000 listeners.
During the eventful gala dinner held on 12 September at the Phuthaditjhaba Multipurpose Hall, the station celebrated its accomplishments, having received three nominations at the inaugural Community Radio Awards and winning one award. The evening also marked the official launch of the station and the unveiling of its new logo, featuring the tagline “BaPemeNotsi,” which reflects the station’s commitment to growth and success.
The gala was attended by notable figures, including former Lesedi FM Station Manager Pula Pula Mothibi and former Lesedi FM Programmes Manager Mohlalefi “Wire” Khoali, along with local business leaders and municipal representatives.
“Our objective is to secure a commercial license. Currently, there are very few commercial radio stations in the Free State, and we want to change that by creating a station that can be enjoyed throughout the province. We are aiming high with our plans to acquire that commercial license,” stated Skuzabel.
He also encouraged local businesspeople to invest in the station to help it flourish.
“We are the first online station to launch with such style (a gala). It shows that we are going somewhere and that we are here to stay. We are not just a one-hit wonder. Our goal is to remain in the industry and pursue the commercial path,” he added.
