Free State Premier, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, recently visited the grieving family of 7-year-old Ntombazana Mnyamane, whose tragic death has deeply affected the community of Bultfontein, Free State.
Ntombazana was reportedly raped and killed by someone she trusted, and her loss has sent shockwaves throughout the province.
The incident, which occurred close to her home, involved the discovery of her body beneath a bed in a shack, with injuries noted on her neck. According to police reports, the alleged perpetrator, a 29-year-old relative of the family, had been on parole after serving part of a sentence for the rape of a 12-year-old child several years prior.

After committing this heinous act, he fled to a farming community in Theunissen, where, following an intelligence-led manhunt, police were able to apprehend him.
During her visit, Premier Letsoha-Mathae was joined by several key figures, including the MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, Jabu Mbalula, the Chief Whip of the Free State Legislature, Oupa Khoabane, Member of the Free State Legislature Zama Sigwebela, and the Mayor of Tswelopele Local Municipality.
“We are here as government to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends following the tragic loss of your little daughter, who had her whole future ahead of her,” the Premier expressed. “This act is particularly painful because it was allegedly committed by someone you knew and trusted, someone you had spent time with, and someone your daughter felt safe around.”

The Premier emphasized that this tragedy highlights the urgent need for societal awareness and mobilization against sexual predators and perpetrators of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). She raised important questions about the prevailing issues in society and called for more robust measures to protect children and communities.
Furthermore, she commended the South African Police Service (SAPS) for their quick response and dedication to ensuring that the alleged perpetrator is brought to justice.
