Detective Sergeant Sibongile Nyofane’s dedication is paying off as she successfully secured a 13-year prison sentence for murder suspect Bhekisisa Khumalo. Her relentless efforts and meticulous investigation led to this significant outcome.
In the course of her investigation, Sergeant Nyofane acted swiftly on valuable information and collaborated with other South African Police Service (SAPS) units to set up a Vehicle Checkpoint (VCP) on the N3 highway. This strategic move resulted in the arrest of Khumalo as taxis headed towards Bergville were searched.

The investigation revealed that Khumalo and the victim, 23-year-old Mantsana “Spado” Thulo, had met at a local tavern before going to his residence. An altercation occurred near an outside toilet, leading to Thulo’s tragic death.
On 13 November 2024, at around 08:04, Zamdela police responded to a murder complaint. Upon arriving at the scene in Chris Hani, they found Thulo’s body in an outside toilet, partially undressed and unresponsive. Emergency services declared her dead at the scene.
The Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court ultimately sentenced Khumalo to 13 years of direct imprisonment for his role in the murder, marking a significant step towards justice for the victim.
