Bloemfontein Real Hearts is more than just a soccer team; it’s a vital part of the community, working hard to keep boys off the streets and away from social challenges.
Originally established in 2008, the team operated until 2021 under the leadership of the late Maisela Mbanjane. His grandson, Thapelo Mabokotho Mbanjane, recognized the need to bring the team back to life in 2025 after many boys from the Freedom Square area approached him, expressing their desire for the team’s revival.
Thapelo noticed a rise in gangsterism nearby and understood the critical need for positive role models and recreational activities. “I am committed to keeping my grandfather’s legacy alive,” Thapelo stated, as he took the reins of the team, which now boasts under-11, under-13, and under-15 squads.

The team is skillfully managed by Coach Boitumelo Kgosimotho and a dedicated support staff, including Mmami Rabidinyane, Karabo Sekgapane, and Reanetse Mbanjane.
Thapelo emphasized their mission: “We decided to reopen the team to combat the challenges faced by young boys in our area. So far, the impact has been huge. We believe this was our father’s vision—to steer young boys away from the streets through football and education. The support from the parents and the community is crucial in keeping this team running.”
Recently, the team received a significant boost with a generous donation of soccer kits and training equipment, further enabling them to pursue their mission of positive change.
