Mamosina Leshabane, affectionately known as “Mamzo,” has made a remarkable impact in sports administration over the years. As the owner of Mangaung’s successful ABC Motsepe team, Mangaung Unite, she stands as a powerful testament to the capabilities of women in the male-dominated world of soccer.
Mamzo has demonstrated that women can effectively manage soccer clubs professionally, proving that they are just as capable as their male counterparts.
Under her leadership, Mangaung Unite has cultivated talent, with numerous players advancing to prominent clubs, and the team has participated in promotional playoffs, showcasing her dedication to developing local talent.
Despite facing numerous challenges, her resilience shines through, allowing her to continue pursuing her passion for the sport. At the Free State Sports Awards held on 15 August, Mamzo was honoured with the MEC Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her unwavering commitment and dedication to soccer.
In an interview with Free State World, Leshabane expressed how deeply meaningful the honour was for her. Being acknowledged by the provincial leadership as a woman in a predominantly male industry highlights the years of hard work, sacrifice, and contribution she’s made.
The moment her name was called on stage took her by surprise, filling her with immense joy and pride. This recognition has rekindled her determination to uplift communities through football in the province.
“My advice to women in sports and football specifically is that you are more than capable. Claim your stake and don’t allow anyone to tell you otherwise,” she encouraged, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.
