At just 22 years old, Ororiseng Molotsi has become an inspiring figure in Thaba-Nchu’s vibrant arts community. Known for his ever-present smile and infectious positivity, Ororiseng’s journey illustrates the transformative power of dance and music.
His passion for dance began in 2015 at the Mmabana Cultural Centre, where he was mentored by the late Mokhele Ben Makatu. However, his initial introduction to dance came earlier, through Simon Ligojane, who inspired him with ballroom dance.
“At first, I was just there to play with friends,” he recalls. “But then I realized I was good at this, and that’s when I started taking it seriously.” Ororiseng’s dance style is diverse; he performs various styles, including span jaive, cha-cha, quickstep, Zulu dance, Mzansi, and Afrofusion. Yet, it is contemporary dance that has truly captured his heart.
“Contemporary dance has something special that I’ve never felt before. It’s the only way I can tell stories without words, and it helps me forget about everything else,” Ororiseng says.
His dedication is evident; he mastered contemporary dance in just three months. Even after losing his mentor in 2018, he continued to refine his craft by participating in multiple programs and workshops.
Ororiseng’s talent has led him to some of South Africa’s most prestigious stages, including two consecutive appearances at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, the Home Brew Festival, Gauteng’s CBA Awards, and Bloemfontein’s Central Music Awards at PACOFS.
Despite his success, Ororiseng faces challenges common to many artists, such as delayed payments and limited resources for costumes. Unlike many aspiring performers, he is determined to put Sthiba on the map and aims to discover and nurture budding talents.
