Born and bred in Thaba Nchu, Dr. Mosito Motlhakoane has proven that one’s background doesn’t limit or prohibit success. He successfully launched his debut book, a memoir titled “The Orphanage,” on 18 April at his former high school, RT Mokgopa High in Zone 4, Thaba Nchu.

Dr. Mosito launched the book at his former high school to share his personal journey from poverty to academic success and to inspire learners that one’s background doesn’t limit one’s dreams.

Even learners from his former primary school, Motlatla Primary, were in attendance, where he gained his foundation phase education. Speakers praised Dr. Mosito’s decision to launch his book at his former school to inspire hope and reignite dreams.

He was also praised for his humility, caring, and love for the less fortunate, and for his passion for encouraging academic excellence and education, as he wants to see people succeed academically. Especially those hailing from poor households.

Dr. Mosito is a Medical Doctor and a candidate attorney; his current goal is to be a judge. “The Orphanage”  is a collection of his memories from childhood to the present day.

In this compelling narrative, he portrays the challenges he faced throughout his life, including poverty, being raised by a strict single mother, frequently away at work, experiencing divorce, and enduring betrayals.

These candid reflections highlight persistence, patience, resilience, and the power of dreaming. His passion for turning dreams into reality resonates throughout the pages.

“My book is all about inspiring both young and old to cherish and chase their dreams, even in the face of numerous hurdles,” Dr. Mosito expressed.

“The book aims to give courage to navigate through this busy, brutal, and unkind world, encouraging people to create as many options as possible. Nothing is more painful than living a life without choices.” He added

According to Dr. Mosito, the inspiration for his book came from those with whom he has shared his stories, particularly his mother and teachers, who played pivotal roles in his journey.

“I’ve learned that everything my mother and my teachers encouraged me to believe I could achieve, I eventually did. The hunger for success they instilled in me, along with the discipline to reach my dreams, shaped who I am today. This book is a gift to them,” he remarked.

Growing up as a rejected child, Mosito often found solace in reading and writing. He mentioned that due to a stutter in his youth, he felt that people understood him better through his writing than through spoken words.

The book is available for R200 per copy. To purchase a copy, interested readers can contact 073 264 2735 .
