The Free State is making a significant mark at the upcoming 2025 Macufe Relaunch edition, with local talent taking center stage. Out of 140 artists participating in the festival, an impressive 121 are based in the Free State, showcasing the Free States vibrant artistic scene.
Macufe has long served as a platform for local artists, and during its recent launch, the Free State Department of Sport, Arts and Culture reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Free State talent through the festival’s various events.
In specific showcases, Free State artists have a notable presence:
- In the MACUFE Hip-Hop vs Amapiano event, 17 out of 20 artists hail from the Free State.
- For the MACUFE Main Festival, 10 out of 18 artists are from the region.
- The MACUFE Gospel Festival features 11 Free State artists out of 19.
Overall, 38 of the 57 artists across the three major MACUFE shows represent the Free State, making up 67% of the lineup. Beyond music, Free State artists are also well-represented in other festival segments, including comedy, poetry, dance, theatre, and visual arts exhibitions.

MEC Ntombizanele Sifuba emphasized the importance of artistic development in the Free State, stating, “Our resolve to ensure artistic development in the Free State is a matter of principle, and this development will continue to be on an upward trajectory.”
She highlighted the success of the Free State Homebrew Festival in February 2025, which featured 240 local artists.
The 2025 Macufe festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of Free State artistry.
