Two families in Botshabelo are celebrating after receiving brand new “Breaking New Ground” (BNG) houses. The Rakhosi family, residing in K-Section, and the Modiko family are thrilled to have moved into their newly built homes.
Among the beneficiaries is 74-year-old Nkgono Mosalentja Maria Modiko, whose previous living conditions were unsuitable due to her disabilities. Initially, only the foundation of her house had been laid during a visit by dignitaries, but thanks to the efforts of the Free State Department of Human Settlements, her new home is now complete.

The Rakhosi family also moved into their newly constructed BNG house after their previous home, with an asbestos roof, was demolished. Puseletso Rakhosi could hardly contain her excitement as she received the keys to her new house from MEC Saki Mokoena, joyfully exploring her new space.
During a site visit last November, led by Minister of Human Settlements Thembi Simelane, Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, and MEC for CoGTA and Human Settlements Saki Mokoena, a comprehensive service delivery program was launched in the Mangaung Metro.
This initiative focused on demolishing unsafe two-roomed houses, providing emergency housing, and replacing asbestos-roofed homes with dignified BNG houses, enhancing the living conditions for families in the community.
