Two Samaritans, Khauhelo Loape and Thapelo Mbanjane, have made a commendable effort by reaching out to Itemeleng Primary School in Reddersburg, Free State. Along with Nkululeko Matakane, the duo recently donated school shoes to learners in need at the school.
Their generous gesture stemmed from a request by the School Governing Body (SGB) Chairperson, who identified 15 learners from disadvantaged families in urgent need of footwear. With the donations, five boys and ten girls received new school shoes, greatly easing the burden for their families.
Within just two weeks, Loape and Mbanjane collected a total of twenty-four pairs of school shoes and socks after rallying friends and family to contribute to the cause.

Looking ahead, the two Samaritans have exciting plans for their next initiative. They aim to reward the top 10 learners based on their June academic reports. “We want to recognize learners who are performing well academically to continue striving for excellence and motivate others,” Loape shared. They plan to conduct a roadshow after the winter holidays, visiting different primary schools in Reddersburg and Edenburg to present awards to the top-performing learners from each grade.
Loape emphasized that their initiatives are driven by a genuine love for their community and a desire to create a positive impact. They have observed that schools within the Xhariep District often do not receive adequate recognition for their achievements and challenges, and they hope to change that narrative.
