Moipone Mokake’s passion for the media is clear; it isn’t just a job for her, it’s her calling. When she steps behind the mic, she embraces the moment, allowing her voice to resonate with listeners.
Based in Bloemfontein, Moipone is a current affairs presenter at Motheo FM and also serves as a presenter at Phuthuluha TV (formerly known as 1 Free State TV). Since January 2025, she has been hosting the show “Re di tshola di fisa,” where she tackles a variety of current affairs topics.
Moipone views radio as a vital tool that connects people to the world around them, providing accessible news in various locations, including breaking news updates. Her show airs weekdays from Monday to Thursday between 18:00-19:00, focusing on diverse topics such as crime, human rights, politics, and local community issues.
Emphasizing the community aspect of their work, she highlighted that their primary focus is on daily affairs, events, and pressing issues that impact their community. Moipone credits her team for making her job more manageable, allowing her to stay informed about local happenings and trending topics in South Africa. Preparation for her show involves thorough research, reading, and note-taking to ensure that she’s well-equipped for each broadcast.
In addition to her radio work, Moipone hosts “Botjhaba ba rona” on Phuthuluha TV, a show dedicated to cultural traditions—featuring broadcasts of traditional weddings, initiation school celebrations, and expert interviews.
Outside of the media realm, she is a professional makeup artist and an MC. In 2023, she founded Miss Kay Beauty Bar Botle Ke Botho, a beauty service catering to both men and women.
“My radio journey has been quite joyful,” Moipone reflected. “I believe hard work pays off, and being recognized on a national platform is definitely my goal. To be honored as the best presenter in our category would be the cherry on top, as presenting is my first love.”
