Ke Moja Without Drugs’ Awareness Campaign

The fight against drug abuse in the Free State gained momentum as the Sefora Ntombela Foundation, funded by the Department of Social Development under MEC Mathabo Leeto, hosted a drug awareness campaign at Ramoshoane Primary School in Yorksford Trust, Thaba Nchu. The initiative, themed Ke Moja Without Drugs, aimed to educate learners about the dangers of substance abuse and the impact it has on their future.

The event aligns with the vision of Free State Premier Maqueen Mathae, who has prioritized tackling drug abuse as one of her key missions. With substance abuse becoming a growing concern across communities, initiatives like this are crucial in creating awareness and equipping young people with the knowledge to resist peer pressure.

Welcoming the campaign, Ramoshoane Primary School Principal Kelopile Rosemary Segoneco stressed the importance of educating children early about the dangers of drugs. “Our learners face many challenges, and drug abuse is one of the biggest threats to their future. This program is necessary to ensure they make informed decisions,” she said.

One of the key speakers, Mr. Tebello, who introduced himself as Mr. Moja, delivered a passionate message urging learners to stay away from drugs. “Drugs kill, and they will destroy your future,” he warned. “Many young people fall into the trap of substance abuse because of peer pressure, but you must be strong and say no.”

The Ke Moja Without Drugs campaign seeks to empower learners by providing real-life testimonies, motivational talks, and interactive sessions to help them resist negative influences. The initiative has been praised for its proactive approach, with teachers and community members calling for more such programs in schools.

“We need continuous engagement with learners. When they hear these messages from people they admire, it makes a real difference,” said one educator at the event.

With drug abuse on the rise in many communities, the Free State government has committed to intensifying efforts to combat the crisis. The Sefora Ntombela Foundation, through its partnership with the Department of Social Development, plans to extend the Ke Moja Without Drugs campaign to more schools across the province, ensuring that more learners receive this life-changing message.
