Residents in Thaba Nchu have taken a commendable initiative to tackle the increasing safety issue of potholes on their streets. Originally sparked by casual conversations among neighbors, this community-driven crowdfunding effort has gained momentum and is making a notable impact.
The residents from a specific street, alongside supporters from other areas, successfully raised enough funds to purchase over 140 bags of asphalt, which have already been utilized to repair multiple potholes. Although the project is ongoing, the progress achieved thus far demonstrates the power of collective action in effecting real change.
The Thaba Nchu Pothole Repair Project aims to restore local roads, enhance safety, and illustrate how unity can lead to improvements in the community. Entirely funded through crowdfunding and local contributions, this initiative showcases how grassroots movements can drive meaningful transformation.
“These potholes have been a daily safety hazard, and waiting for external help was no longer an option. By coming together, we’ve shown that we can create safer roads for ourselves and our children,” shared Keamogetse Ngakantsi from the Strata Sa Rona project.
The initiative has enjoyed strong support from local youth, who have eagerly participated in the repairs. The organizers are now planning to launch an official crowdfunding campaign to gather more resources and finalize the remaining repairs needed on the street.
Looking to the future, the project’s vision aims to extend beyond just one street.
“This is only the beginning. We want more people across Thaba Nchu to get involved. If we can do it here, it can be done in other parts of our community too,” said Ngakantsi.
