Boitumelo Dikano, born and raised in Phahameng, Bultfontein, Free State, has shown a remarkable affinity for technology from a young age. His journey into the world of innovation began at just 14 when he invented his first creation and shared it with his science teacher, who recognized his potential and encouraged him to participate in the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists.
In his debut at the Eskom Expo, Boitumelo competed in the Innovation and Technology category and achieved a Bronze Medal, marking the start of a series of impressive accomplishments. Over subsequent years, he shone at various competitions, winning:
– Silver Medal (2017)
– Gold Medal (2018)
– Best Eskom Energy Project (2018)
– Siemens Africa Award (2018)
His education continued at the Central University of Technology, Free State, where he further honed his skills and creativity. Boitumelo emerged victorious in the Idea-Gym Innovation Challenge in both 2022 and 2023, and earned First Prize in the FABLAB Sustainability Competition.
In 2024, he reached the regional stages of the Intercollege Competition, finishing as Runner-Up. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to the national finals of the Allan Gray Makers Entrepreneur Competition in 2025, where he competed in the Tech Business category. That same year, on November 14, he was honored to be among the Top 8 startups in South Africa, earning the opportunity to pitch his innovative ideas to investors, standing out as the sole finalist from the Free State Province.
