Following its successful run earlier this year, 1976 Films will next year host its second edition of the public movie screening initiative called Bringing Cinema to Your Doorstep, the aim of BCDS is to create and encourage a culture of consuming South African and African-made films, fiction and nonfiction, and to develop audiences.

1976 Films founder Mpho Tau says BCDS is a precursor to what in the future will be Bloemfontein International Film Festival (BIFF)

“Having witnessed the interest and excitement brought by the first edition of BCDS, we felt the need to do the second run and this is all made possible by the funding from the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP 4) and the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) and this we aim for it to be an annual event.” Said Tau.

Building on their agenda of exposing Bloemfontein and Free State residents to South African and African-made films, BCDS will next year screen a documentary film called The Colonel’s Stray Dogs, directed by Khalid Shamis and a feature film, Can you see us? directed by Kenny Roc Mumba from Zambia.

The screenings will take place on 1-2 March 2024 at the Civic Theatre in Bloemfontein, residents are encouraged to once again come in numbers to witness nights of great films. Ticket is only R50.
