Theunissen born writer and literary lover, Khauhelo Lebetsa, a writer and creative soul, aims to pen his name among the best in South Africa.
His love affair with literature and art began in Theunissen, where he grew up, surrounded by the rolling hills and vast skies of the Free State. As a curious child, he used to spend hours cutting out pictures from magazines and newspapers, pasting them into blank pages, and weaving his own stories around them.
This early experimentation with words and images sparked a passion that would shape Khauhelo’s life’s journey.
However, it was poetry that truly captured his heart. He found solace in the rhythm and rhyme of words and began performing his own work at local events.

“My involvement with Stage Vodo arts production in Theunissen was a turning point, as I sharpened my skills and developed confidence in my voice. This led to opportunities to perform at the prestigious Macufe Word Festival for four consecutive years during my high school days, where I rubbed shoulders with some of South Africa’s most talented writers and performers.”
After high school, Khauhelo made a conscious decision to pursue his passion for writing, despite the financial uncertainties that came with it. He wrote short stories and poems, selling them to make ends meet.
Some of his poems were published in a book titled “Poets Logic” by English writer Barue, a testament to the power of perseverance and the global reach of his words.
“As I navigated the world of freelance writing, I discovered a versatility that I didn’t know I possessed. I penned articles for magazines and newspapers, edited books, and produced content for various clients. I worked with different types of writing, from academic to fiction, and even danced with words in the world of copywriting.”

Khauhelo’s experience in art and writing led to scriptwriting opportunities for TV shows on Mzansi Magic and SABC. He further ventured into cinematography and working behind the scenes to bring stories to life.
As a seasoned freelancer, he had the privilege of working with international clients and publishing articles in esteemed international magazines.
Khauhelo has been invited to the Edinburgh International Book Festival in Scotland, the largest literary festival in the world.
This iconic event transforms Edinburgh into a hub of words, ideas, and creativity every August, attracting writers, thinkers, and book lovers from around the globe.
From August 15th to 30th, he will be immersed in the city’s rich literary heritage, attending writing workshops, and participating in book signings, debates, and panel discussions.
