The DA has instructed its legal representatives to place the city (Mangaung Metro Municipality) on terms before 15:00 indicating that they will act and what action will be pursued.

This comes after land invasions took place at Lourierpark in Bloemfontein, Free State.

Lourierpark came to a standstill on Tuesday 5 March as the community demonstrated their anger over land invasions and the was a standoff between the invaders and Lourierpark residents. Entrances and exits into and out of Lourierpark were barricaded in the morning by residents.

Residents say their houses will lose value and they were not consulted but just saw scores of land invaders arriving in trucks and bakkies and erecting structures, while Mangaung Mayor Gregory Nthatisi was blueticking them and their pleas fell on deaf ears.

Tyres were burnt and police fired rubber bullets to disperse angry residents. The residents accused the police of folding their hands and not coming to their aid but allegedly siding with the land invaders.

Ward 18 DA Councillor David Mc Kay stated that should no action be taken by the metro in implementing the court order granted to them halting land invasions, they will approach the High Court to:

1) Force the metro to do what they set out to do with the court order it obtained on Saturday

2) Grant appropriate relief against the persons or organisations who are interfering with the execution of court order and who are subverting the effect thereof.
