He might be gone, but his legacy and passion for community arts development continue to thrive, thanks to his family. The late Pesa Pheko’s dream is set to become a reality with the inaugural Lepoqong Arts Festival, scheduled for Saturday, 11 July, at the Bach Centre (Botshabelo, Arts, Culture, and Heritage).
The festival will take place at the Bach Centre located at 2427 L-Section, Botshabelo, near Thari Ya Tshepe Primary School, starting at 10:00 AM, with registrations beginning at 9:00 AM.
In an interview with Free State World, Khausu Pheko, Pesa’s elder brother and the current Managing Director of the Bach Centre and Legacy Kiddies Village (LKV), shared that they had been planning the Lepoqong Arts Festival with Pesa before his untimely passing. After his brother’s death, Khausu vowed to continue the festival’s vision aimed at reviving the arts scene in Botshabelo and identifying local artistic talent.
The festival will feature a variety of activities, including art exhibitions, drama performances, live music, dance, poetry, and storytelling, among others. Several government departments have been invited to participate in the celebrations.
This year’s theme will focus on Gender-Based Violence, with educational segments designed to teach children about its impact on society. In line with this theme, Khausu is also encouraging donations of clothing and sanitary towels to support victims of gender-based violence.
