Bethlehem cultural activist Lekgutsa Mbele has publicly commended the people of Bethlehem and its event organizers for building a vibrant culture of events, while calling for unprecedented collaboration.
“Bethlehem, we are united in everything. I wish to commend our event organizers. You’ve given us life.” Mbele said.
Mbele highlighted Bethlehem’s proven track record of successful events, including the TRP Tournaments, Bethlehem Airshow, Bethlehem to Clarens 37KM Fun Walk and Run Marathon, McLaren Circus, Bethlehem Soul Festival, Friends of Skeptical Kevo, Bethlehem ParkOff, Bethlehem Colour Festival, Ditjotjela Cultural Dance Festival, and Re Phethile Art Production Festival, among others.
“But I believe Bethlehem can do more,” Mbele stated.
His vision for the festival is “One Festival, One Month“

Mbele’s proposal is for all Bethlehem organizers to meet, put differences aside, and build one combined festival for an entire month.
“Imagine it—sport, music, theatre, dance, airshows, marathons, culture, business — all under one Bethlehem banner. 30 days of unity. 30 days of pride. 30 days of keeping our youth busy and our town alive,” he said.
The proposed festival would integrate existing events into a single, coordinated calendar to maximize economic impact, reduce resource duplication, and strengthen social cohesion.
Mbele emphasized that this principle is key to sustaining happiness in Bethlehem and “keeping the flag on high.”
He is now calling on all event organizers, stakeholders, government departments, and community leaders to support an Indaba to explore the concept.
