The Bethlehem community came together in a spectacular display of unity and determination at the 7th Annual Fun Walk and Run Marathon from Bethlehem to Clarens on Sunday, 27 July. The event, supported by the Lekgutsa Mbele Foundation and sponsors attracted over 80 participants of all ages and fitness levels.
Kicking off at Wimpy Bethlehem at 5 am, participants experienced a scenic route that not only showcased the beauty of the area but also the spirit of camaraderie within the community. The event served as a powerful reminder of the strong bonds connecting residents, with many supporting and encouraging each other along the way.
Among the notable participants were younger community members, including a 13-year-old boy who completed the fun walk and run, and a young girl who proudly cheered her father on to the finish line, embodying the event’s enthusiasm and community dedication.
The marathon also positively impacted the local economy, with taxi owners and small businesses reaping benefits from the influx of participants and spectators. Organizers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the community, local entrepreneurs, and sponsors for their contributions to the event’s success.
Led by Lefa Sechele, the organizers are already excitedly planning for the 8th Annual Fun Walk and Run Marathon in 2026. Community activist Lekgutsa Mbele praised the electric atmosphere, emphasizing that the event highlighted the strong bonds between community members.
“This event was a testament to the strong community spirit in Bethlehem, with participants from all walks of life coming together to support one another,” he stated, noting the encouragement that echoed along the route.
Since its inception by two individuals in 2018, the Bethlehem to Clarens Fun Walk and Run Marathon has blossomed into a cherished annual tradition.
