Ten ECD centres from across Thaba Nchu in the Free State gathered at the Selosesha Public Library in Thaba Nchu for the Mobile Museum Education event that took place on Monday, 22 June.

This special educational initiative, which is the brainchild of Prudence Shuping from Curious Minds, was organised to provide an exciting learning experience for young children.

The National Museum’s mobile museum presented an engaging lesson on reptiles, how to identify them, their characteristics, as well as their strengths and weaknesses, led by Lebohang Makwai from the National Museum.

Shuping reiterated her passion for education and the importance of ensuring that children in Thaba Nchu receive the best quality education. She primarily works with children and is dedicated to Early Childhood Development Centres, as she believes they are often overlooked and lack sufficient exposure. Her mission is to enhance the learning capabilities of these centres (creches).

“I decided to invite the National Museum Mobile Museum after seeing their poster about visiting communities. I contacted them to come to Thaba Nchu, which helped reduce the costs of traveling to the museum, bringing education about reptiles right to the children,” she explained.

Shuping aims to initiate more community engagements with the ECDs and is available to help where needed. She can be reached at 069 926 8355.
