A collaboration between the Hawks’ Priority Crime Specialized Investigation (PCSI) and the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has successfully preserved over R260,000 in cash.

The preservation order was granted by the Free State Division of the High Court of South Africa in Bloemfontein.

The frozen funds were located in the bank account of Halimmah Mnyobisi, a 39-year-old widow from Botshabelo, who is alleged to have orchestrated the death of her husband, Fezile Mnyobisi, aged 35.

Fezile was stabbed while walking home from a tavern in Botshabelo on September 15, 2023. Subsequent investigations revealed that Halimmah and two male accomplices had planned the murder.

Following Fezile’s death, the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) paid out approximately R300,000 to Halimmah.

The asset forfeiture investigators from PCSI and AFU worked diligently to secure the preservation order. Meanwhile, Halimmah and her accomplices are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder at the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court.
