Self-taught visual artist Mokokoana Koenane from Botshabelo, but based in Freedom Square, Bloemfontein dreams of owning an art gallery.
Mokokoana said his love for art began while in Grade 9 when he used to draw cartoon characters and cars. He realized how good he was after his teachers and fellow learners were impressed by his work and advised him to follow his passion.
He uses pen, pencil and charcoal in his drawings and portraits of people, objects and animals. He is currently a Studio Art and Design student at the Central University of Technology.

Mokokoana’s painting and drawing start from R300 to R900.
He won the Botshabelo Street Culture Festival’s Art category in 2020. This encouraged him to start charging people for his artworks, since the demand for his work was enormous.
Mokokoana The 20-year-old continues to exhibit his work around the Free State Province and beyond.
“My dream is to own an art gallery. I know it won’t be easy but I will work hard as I want to see my artworks being seen by millions and available all over the world,” said Mokokoana.
