The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), part of the Department of Employment and Labour, held a media networking session in Bloemfontein on Thursday, February 12. This event was organized to engage local media and introduce the various services and products offered by the department. The leadership team from the Free State office was present, sharing insights about the UIF and the broader objectives of the Department of Labour and Employment.
The UIF provides a range of people-centered services to the public in the Free State, operating through eleven labour centres across the province. This support is not limited to beneficiaries alone; it extends to their families and applies during times of illness, maternity, adoption processes, and to dependents.
A highlight of the UIF’s offerings is its Employability Programme, which aims to boost job creation. Companies and entities looking for employees can submit proposals to the department, fostering collaboration to enhance employment opportunities.
In addition, the Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) serves as a vital resource for employers and employees facing distress. This relief fund allows employers to apply for financial support to continue paying their employees and sustain existing jobs during challenging times.
Moreover, the Compensation Fund is an essential service for employees injured while at work. It enables employees to apply for compensation, guiding them through the necessary processes while ensuring that employers comply and provide the required support to injured staff members.
Despite the challenges faced, the UIF and the Department of Employment and Labour are dedicated to serving the Free State province with pride and commitment.
