In a bid to close the Mandela outreach programme on a meaningful note, MEC for Community Safety, Roads, and Transport, Jabu Mbalula, attended two church services in Bloemfontein. The services were held at St Peter’s Methodist Church in Bochabela and AFM Rocklands Assembly.

Addressing congregants, MEC Mbalula emphasized the importance of community involvement in curbing abuse and crime. He urged residents to report known abusers to the authorities, highlighting that community members often know the perpetrators.

Reflecting on the past, Mbalula reminded the congregation about the effectiveness of street committees in previous years. He called for the revival of these committees to assist the police in fighting criminal activities and protecting residents from abusers.

Mbalula expressed his sorrow over a recent rape incident in Bergman, Bloemfontein, where an elderly woman was attacked. The perpetrators are still at large, but the MEC expressed confidence in the police’s ability to apprehend them swiftly.

“We must work together to create safer communities,” Mbalula said, urging everyone to take an active role in safeguarding their neighborhoods.
