The Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, and Culture has urged arts and culture structures representing artists in the Free State to organize themselves in a proper way.
Sifuba made this appeal during her address at the Macufe 2025 relaunch in Bloemfontein. She emphasized the importance of proper organization among artistic structures to facilitate meaningful and productive engagement with her department.
“The department is eager to collaborate with all relevant arts and culture structures. However, these structures must be properly constituted and accountable to the artists they represent,” Sifuba stated.
She also pointed out that leadership squabbles within some structures hinder effective collaboration with her department.
“A picture must not be painted out there that the department is not willing to work with structures that represent Artists. That picture will be far from the truth.” Sifuba emphasized.
According to the MEC, there will be fair representation of Free State artists at Macufe, and artistic structures will be consulted regarding the festival lineup for Macufe 2025, ensuring that local artists are adequately represented.
