In honor of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, Sue’s Halfway Home NPO is taking bold steps to support young girls in Reitz, Free State, by leading a sanitary pad drive aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and restoring dignity.
The initiative, founded and spearheaded by Sue, will see 200 sanitary pads donated to Leifo Iziko Combined School, where Sue will personally hand over the supplies. A professional nurse from The Choice Local Pharmacy will accompany her to facilitate an important session on menstrual hygiene, sexual health, and disease prevention.

Sue shared how the drive came to life through sheer determination and community spirit.
“I reached out to my friends, family, and contacts, collecting every pack with the hope of changing someone’s life. When I approached Oscar Mbo, he didn’t hesitate to help. That was my big break,” Sue said.
“Another generous local tenderpreneur, whom I can’t name, followed suit. The support was overwhelming, even people in town would stop me and offer to buy pads.”

Though deeply moved by the community’s response, Sue also expressed concern over the unequal support received by her team. “They work hard behind the scenes. I just wish people could help them the same way they help me.”
This heartfelt campaign is more than just a donation; it’s a mission to end period poverty and break the stigma around menstruation.

Sue emphasized, “This is close to my heart. No girl should miss school because of her period. With education and access to sanitary products, we’re empowering our girls to stay in school and reach their potential. We’re grateful to every person who contributed. Together, we are rewriting the narrative”
Sue’s Halfway Home NPO continues to push forward, aiming to grow partnerships and keep making an impact.
