Young United Theatre Production recently hosted a vibrant and inspiring cultural arts festival in Kutlwanong, Odendaalsrus, showcasing the rich talent of the local community.
The event celebrated the arts, bringing together performers, theatre enthusiasts, and community members for a lively day filled with drama, dance, and poetry. The festival was graced by notable figures in the arts industry, including Thomas Malebatso, Jacky Moshane, Lebohang Mphulanyane, and Lucky Masekoa, whose presence motivated the young artists competing in the festival.
Led by Festival Director Thato Maleke, with support from Assistant Director Thabang Mahlatsi and Secretary Joyce Mokoena, the team’s dedication played a crucial role in the success of the event. Four productions participated: Young United Theatre Production, Phuthanang Theatre Production, Girls In Power Production, and Special Star Production.
The competition displayed outstanding talent across various categories. Girls In Power Production stood out, securing four awards: Best Production in Dance, Best Female Dancer, Best Poet, and Best Production in Poetry. Phuthanang Theatre Production earned accolades for Best Actor and Best Actress, while Young United Theatre Production was recognized for Best Production in Drama. Special Star Production also celebrated success with the Best Male Dancer award.
The festival not only highlighted the artistic potential within the community but also provided a vital platform for performers to exhibit their skills. After the event, Festival Director Thato Maleke expressed his gratitude to all productions, guests, supporters, and community members whose contributions made the festival a resounding success.
Maleke also announced plans to establish the festival as an annual event, with aspirations for a more extensive celebration next year. Organizers are eager to welcome theatre, dance, and poetry productions from across the Free State Province to participate in future editions.
