A 31-year-old foreign national was apprehended following a robbery at a filling station in Zastron, Free State, during the early hours of Sunday, 27 July. The incident took place at 00:53 and was reported promptly to the police.

According to law enforcement, three unknown males entered the shop under the guise of customers. Moments later, one of the suspects returned, brandishing a firearm and threatening an employee.

He was soon joined by the other two suspects, also armed, who forced staff members to lie down before they emptied the cash tills and looted items from the shop. During the robbery, a cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash were taken.

Within hours of the robbery, the Zastron Visible Policing unit and Detectives successfully apprehended one suspect and recovered three unlicensed firearms along with suspected stolen goods. A business robbery case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
