Queens: Zonke and Lira
All roads are leading to the MACUFE Divas Festival on Friday, 11 September. It promises to be a memorable day, filled with incredible women, music, good vibes, and endless fun. The Lemo Greenpark venue is getting ready to welcome music lovers for an unforgettable night.
The festival will feature award-winning vocalists, Lira and Zonke, both known for their electrifying stage presence and the ability to captivate audiences. Lira, born Lerato Moipone Molapo, is a multi-platinum selling artist and an impressive 11-time South African Music Award (SAMA) winner.
She is one of the headliners for the event, ready to showcase her immense talent and the powerful voice that has made her a household name.
Lira’s journey began in 2000 when she was discovered by musician and producer Arthur Mafokate, who signed her to his label, 999 Music. Her debut album, All My Love, released in 2003, earned her numerous accolades, including wins at the Metro FM Awards, SAMAs, and Channel O Reel Music Awards. The title track even dethroned Beyoncé’s “Dangerously in Love” from the top of the charts.
In 2006, Lira released her first major label album, Feel Good, which made significant waves in the South African music industry. The title track became the most played local song on the radio, and the album went on to achieve Triple-Platinum status. It also marked the first time a South African music video was featured on VH-1.
Her sixth studio album, Born Free, was released on March 25, 2016, featuring hits like “Rhythm of Your Heart” and “Let There Be Light,” both of which achieved gold and platinum status, respectively. Lira’s performances are a highlight, ensuring she remains a fan favorite.
Fellow performer Zonke Dikana, a double platinum-selling artist, will also grace the MACUFE Divas stage. Zonke’s meteoric rise began in 2011 with her third album, Ina Ethe, which was certified double platinum and earned nominations at the 18th South African Music Awards. Her subsequent album, Give and Take Live, recorded in 2013, achieved gold status shortly after its release, solidifying her place among Africa’s Top 10 Female Singing Sensations according to Channel O.
Her fifth album, Work of Heart, released in September 2015, received critical acclaim and garnered multiple nominations at the Metro FM Music Awards and the SAMAs. With countless hits and accolades, Zonke is poised to light up the MACUFE Divas stage with a performance that promises to be unforgettable.
