The Free State MEC for Health, Monyatso Mahlatsi has condemned the attack on health workers by a disgruntled patient at Thabong Clinic in Free State on Friday, 26 July.
The incident has cast a spotlight on the treatment of health workers by patients and the importance of them being respected.
The Free State Health Spokesperson Mondli Mvambi said the patient reportedly went to a clinic in the early hours of the previous day and was not helped as speedily as he preferred.
“The patient left on his own accord only to return the next day with a bucket full of feaces which he poured on the health worker and causing filth in the reception area.” Said Mvambi.
To add insult to injury, Mvambi added that the perpetrator bragged about the incident and posted the aftermath of his actions on Facebook.
A case has been opened with the Police and the affected staff member was provided counselling by the Department.
