She took to radio like a duck to water, little did she know that her passion and love for radio would make her a household name in Mangaung.
Nonkululeko Kingi host the popular the Lit Vodacom Breakfast Show on Motheo FM and Dipesalema on One Free State Televisual (1FS TV). Kingi’s love for radio started at a young age, her family used to be radio listeners and it was their source of information, entertainment, and knowledge.
The was no television at Kingi’s home for some time so radio substituted television, little did she know that gesture was planting a seed inside her.
“I fell in love with radio the moment I realised the power it carries. My love developed out of curiosity, wondering how could a small device like this reach many people at once. I fell in love with radio because of the power it gives presenters, newsreaders, and any other on-air personnel” said Kingi.
The girl with dots, as she is also known is naturally very shy but when on the radio, she realised that her voice could be a tool to engage with people as they could not see her shyness but were able to hear her voice.
Before going on air, preparation is key for Kingi as she pages through current affairs, trends, community activities, and hot news of the day to fuse on her show. She puts herself in the shoes of the listeners, wondering what they would like to hear her talk about, and ensures that her show is relevant to listeners and able to make them engage with her on air.
