The Gender-Based Violence and Femicide awareness event was held recently at the Christian Revival Church in Thaba Nchu, Free State. The event was organized by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development in partnership with Government and Civil Society.

Counsellor Julia Lekhwele addressed the issue of abuse within families and the current cases of abuse in the local areas of Thaba Nchu, emphasizing the need to protect dignity, pride, and safeguard children.

Nomtandaxo Thandi Moyo from the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development urged the community to stand together to fight against Gender-Based Violence in society. She also encouraged women to speak up against abuse and report it at all times.

Boniswa Bele from Setshabelo Child and Family Services informed the public about the safe houses available for abused women at Setshabelo House and the assistance they provide for their children. These safe houses are meant to provide a space for abused women to seek refuge, relax, and consider their options before taking further action.

The Department of Social Development shared information about their services, including family group conferences to improve communication and conflict resolution skills, as well as individual therapy sessions for family members dealing with addiction. They also provide support programs such as Family Bonding, behavioral health Treatment, and Parental Skills Program.
