The inaugural champions proved they had the speed, skill and grit to conquer South Africa’s toughest new farm-inspired fitness challenge.
History was made at Red Bull Agri-Grit as Lohan Swart and Iana Strydom were crowned the inaugural men’s and women’s champions of South Africa’s newest fitness challenge, overcoming a demanding course inspired by the physical work that has shaped generations of Free State farmers.
The event transformed authentic farm work into a competitive test of strength, speed and efficiency, bringing the original Agri-Grit concept to life.

Hosted at Middelwater Plaas outside Bloemfontein, competitors faced a series of farm-inspired stations designed by Red Bull athlete and obstacle course racing champion Thomas van Tonder. But victory required far more than brute strength. Every station rewarded efficiency, strategy and resilience, proving that the smartest competitor, not simply the fastest, would rise to the top.
After progressing through the qualifying heats, knockout rounds and finals, Lohan Swart delivered a dominant performance in the men’s competition, while Iana Strydom showcased consistency, composure and determination to claim the inaugural women’s title, etching their names into Red Bull Agri-Grit history.
Reflecting on her victory, Iana Strydom said: “Taking part in Red Bull Agri-Grit was an absolute pleasure. I love a good challenge, and Red Bull definitely delivered. The event was incredibly well organised, the competition was tough and winning made the whole experience even more special. This victory means so much to me. I’m naturally competitive, so bringing home the title is something I’m really proud of.”

Men’s champion Lohan Swart described the victory as the reward for months of dedication and perseverance.
“Winning Red Bull Agri-Grit means a lot to me. It was an incredibly demanding event that pushed me both physically and mentally, and coming out on top reflects the hard work, discipline and consistency I’ve put into my training. All the early mornings, tough sessions and moments where I had to push through fatigue were worth it.
The event attracted competitors, families and spectators who gathered to witness South Africa’s newest fitness spectacle, enjoying a full day of head-to-head competition alongside live DJs, entertainment and music performances.
The inaugural edition of Red Bull Agri-Grit not only crowned its first champions but also introduced a uniquely South African sporting concept; one that honours the country’s farming heritage while redefining functional fitness through authentic, everyday challenges.
