Mpho Rose Mokhele from Thaba Nchu is making a living from selling clothes which she crochets herself from wool. Her designs are turning heads and earning her a loyal following, resulting in money in her pocket and food on the table.
Mpho makes beanies, dresses, bikinis, hats, jerseys, children’s dresses and pants.
She learned her crocheting skills from her late grandmother and mother at the age of 13 after she expressed interest and curiosity.
She also knits but specializes in crocheting. The decision to make clothes was inspired after Mpho realized that she was artistic and wanted to see people wearing what she made. Her love for fashion made it easy to venture into making clothes, a decision that has rewarded her fully.

Mpho charges between R200-280 for hats, R150 for beanies, R350 for crochet tops, R180 for bikinis and R350 for children’s dresses.
It takes Mpho a day to two to finish beanies, hats and bikinis and between 3-6 days for dresses, jerseys, pants and tops.
Mpho said what she loves about her work is offering custom designs that her clients are able to customize according to their preferences.
“I love what I do. It’s my full-time job. My clients are varied and aged between 18-80, although most are women,” said Mpho.
