Talented Botshabelo producer, DJ Zaca, real name Motlatsi Mofo has allegedly left Ntate Stunna’s Penya Play Productions where he worked as a producer and was also an artist.

After Cheez Beezy, another Penya Play now former artist released a statement that he parted ways with the label, DJ Zaca shared the post with the caption “Dreams delayed aren’t dream denied”.

The sharing of the statement of Beezy by DJ Zaca raised questions of him still being part of the label. It’s alleged that DJ Zaca might have left Ntate Stunna’s label around November.

However, the reason for his departure is unknown at this stage. According to a screenshot circulating on social media, allegedly from DJ Zaca it reads “ So this label lost a producer, photographer and artist, Ke mang a phoso?

It’s unclear who the screenshot is referring to but with the exodus of Cheez beezy, an artist and allegedly the departure of Ntate Stunna’s photographer/videographer whose name is known to Free State World, the screenshot might allegedly point to the two.

It’s alleged that the photographer also left Penya Play. It’s also alleged that the car that was bought for DJ Zaca by Penya Play, which he shared on social media, was taken back by Penya Play and has been rebranded.

According to a source who spoke to Free State World, the yellow VW car was spotted in Hoffman Square in Bloemfontein, driven by someone else and was branded with Penya Play name.

The source asked the occupants of the vehicle where DJ Zaca was and in their reply, they allegedly said DJ Zaca was in Botshabelo.

On 26 December, during the popular We Back Home festival held in Thaba Nchu annually, the source saw the car again, driven by someone else and Zaca was not around. Ntate Stunna was performed at the festival.

“The question I asked myself was, if the car belongs to Zaca, why was it driven by someone else and branded?” Said the source to Free State World.

Free State World reached out to DJ Zaca for a right of reply and comment and sent him questions by WhatsApp  Asking him to confirm or deny if he left Penya Play, if he left it in November as alleged, the reason for leaving the label, what the future hold for him and if he was happy at Penya Play. We also asked him to confirm if his car was taken or not.

But instead of answering our questions and using the right of reply to tell his side of the story, DJ Zaca ignored our questions but instead threatened to sue Free State World, even though Free State World gave him the 7pm deadline. Questions were sent to him at 08:34, affording him ample time to answer but alas, he ignored the right of reply.

Free State World also reached out to Ntate Stunna’s Manager, Mr Berry Matseletsele for a comment and also sent him questions but we did not get a reply at the time of publishing.

According to a Facebook story picture shared by Ntate Stunna on his Ngoana Mathaabe Facebook page, he gave some insight on how signing artists nearly made him broke.

He said one thing that almost sucked him dry financially in 2024 was signing artists on a 360 deal.

“That means financing their personal expenses, rent and living costs. I put an end to it, it was a lot. I have seen it fail first hand but somehow I was too ambitious and I thought I could pull it off.” Said Stunna through the post.

He further said he doesn’t have a problem with anyone but just stopped financing his artist’s living costs as they were higher than the income.

According to a statement released by Penya Play, they are embracing a new era and revolutionizing their approach to the music industry. The label has chosen to evolve its business model, prioritizing artists autonomy and creative freedom.

The label will now focus on receiving music from artists, and distributing it to global audiences instead of being a 360 deal structure.

“This strategic shift enables artists to maintain ownership and creative control over their work. To facilitate this new paradigm, Penya Play will offer advances to artists, providing them with the financial resources needed to bring their creative visions to life” Said Penya Play on their statement.

Cheezy Beezy confirmed his departure from Penya Play through a statement he released, available on his facebook page.
