Phillimon Thulo, better known by his stage name Dr. Phil, is on a mission to make a mark in the music industry and engrave his name in the legendary books of music history. His musical talent is flourishing, and he continues to collaborate with well-established brands within the industry.
Born in Gelukwaarts near Kroonstad in the Free State, his love for music began at a young age. The name Dr. Phil was bestowed upon him due to his reputation as “the music Doctor,” and he later embraced the identity of Dr. Phil RSA, carrying forward the legacy assigned to him.
His passion for mixing tracks and energizing crowds led him to start his own podcast on Apple Music, a platform where he showcases his musical flair. By absorbing a variety of DJ mixtapes, securing bookings, and attending local events, Dr. Phil has refined his skills and aims to stand shoulder to shoulder with icons like Black Coffee in the Afro-house and electronic music scene.
Dr. Phil RSA has made waves in Bloemfontein’s nightlife, performing at top clubs and serving as a resident DJ at a popular venue on Second Avenue. His talent has also garnered attention internationally, as he is working with a UK-based radio station called Amalgam, alongside local stations.
Recently, Dr. Phil RSA secured contracts with two UK record labels—WeAreIdlly Records and Deep in My Soul Records. Domestically, he has signed with Zakes Bantwini’s Manyonie Productions. His debut EP, “TruNorth,” released in 2021, accumulated over 100,000 streams globally, establishing him as a sought-after producer both in South Africa and abroad.
In a prolific couple of years, he released four additional EPs and four singles between 2022 and 2025, including an exciting collaboration with DJ Fresh in 2025. Dr. Phil RSA is also set to be a part of a Mayonie album, featuring his song “Secrets,” which will be released later this year.
Currently, he is collaborating with various artists, including Native P (UK), DJ Fresh SA, Nuzu Deep, Afrodisiac (Nigeria), and LaBass (UK), among others. Last year, he worked with musicians from the UK, Greece, and Venezuela, and for the past two years, his music has enjoyed airplay on national and international radio stations.
