For some people, plants are just plants, while for others, they represent joy and life. One such person is Pelaelo Sepane from Thaba Nchu, who sells a variety of plants and trees. Regularly, passersby stop at her stall, situated near the Evolution shop, but many are unaware that Sepane has dreamt of owning her own plant nursery since childhood.
Her love for plants was nurtured by her grandmother and mother, who often visited plant nurseries and planted trees and roses in their yards. Sepane’s mother, a domestic worker, was frequently sent by her employers to fetch plants, and Sepane would accompany her, leading to her exposure to diverse plant nurseries. She promised herself that one day she would also sell plants.

Over the years, Sepane has learned about various plant species, and her clients have also taught her more. She mentions the existence of medicinal plants like Aloe, plants that thrive in shade, those that need sunlight, and others that require indoor conditions to survive. She emphasizes the importance of watering them and ensuring that their environment is just right.
In her stall, Sepane sells aloes, roses, trees, ghost plants, succulent plants, and Mexican snowball plants, with prices ranging from R30 to R60, depending on the size and age of the plant.
For Sepane, plants offer peace and a sense of connection. She cultivates them in her yard and home, nurturing them until they are ready for sale from her stall.

“My dream is to own a massive plant nursery filled with various plants, trees, and roses. I also dream of seeing Thaba Nchu as a green town filled with trees and plants,” she concluded.
