Qwaqwa artist Mathabi has been nominated for Lesotho’s 2nd National Music Awards. These annual awards recognize the finest talent in Lesotho and are also open to artists from outside the country.
Mathabi, whose real name is Tshabalala Thabiso Richard, resides in Paballong Village in Qwaqwa. He is nominated in the Best Newcomer category for his single “Bo Malome.”
The Qwaqwa artist has shared the stage with renowned Lesotho musicians such as Sannere, Ntate Stunna, Jcob, C’Yeah, and the late Malome Vector. He has also shared the stage with South African artists, Stino Le Thwenny and Flash Cortez.
“What I love about music is that I can express my feelings and connect with those who are afraid to talk about their emotions,” Mathabi said.

He has released eight singles and is currently working on a six-track EP. Regarding his nomination, Mathabi expressed his excitement, stating that he is thrilled to see his hard work recognized and to put his hometown and province on the musical map.
Mathabi is proud to be from the Free State and uses his mother tongue, Sesotho, to express himself musically.
