Since a young age, Thato Catherine Hlanyane always knew she was destined for greatness and the media space was where her greatness will be birthed.
She is currently a News Anchor, Bulletin script writer, Graphic design Assistant, co-producer, researcher and presenter at One Free State Televisual (1FSTV).
Media personalities in South Africa and overseas have inspired Catherine. She used to mimic their work and became a voice over the artist during her teens and never looked back.
A friend of Catherine suggested that she ventures into news after being mesmerized by her commanding voice and attention to details when coming to current affairs.
Catherine initially did not plan to venture into the news department, but was grateful to her friend for her advice and suggestions.
She has worked for a national broadcaster and local media houses, accumulating a wealth of experience in the process. The Bloemfontein-based Catherine was at one point a voice over artist on SABC 2, being a voice over artist is her first love and speciality.
Catherine is the lady behind Tsebo Ya Setjhaba, a current affairs show on 1FS TV.
“I learn everyday, there’s no routine to it, it can very fast paced which can be somewhat beneficial. I’m quiet introverted, so having to have an interaction with people, in person or make phone calls usually get to me, but I’ve noticed that I don’t crack under the pressure that comes with it.” Catherine emphasized.
She looks up to Nkepile Mabuse and Gabrielle Union’s character in Being Mary Jane “Pualetta Mary Jane Paul Patterson” for inspiration.
“The industry accepted me for who I am and I get to do what I love almost everyday.” She said.
