Bloemfontein visual artist’s dream of meeting Gogo Skhotheni and handing over a drawing he made of her came true when she finally met the DJ.

Kabelo Hlobelo had the opportunity to meet and personally hand over a portrait he created of Gogo Skhotheni (real name Tumi Motsoeneng) and her late son Monde Jr Shange. Skhotheni, a well-known DJ and podcast host, was performing in Bloemfontein on  Saturday 5 April when Kabelo managed to meet her.

Kabelo first reached out to her on social media, specifically Instagram, where he shared the portrait. Skhotheni acknowledged his work by sharing it with her large following on her own Instagram account.

On  5 April, during their meeting, Kabelo presented the drawing of Skhotheni and her son to her. They even posed for a picture together, and Skhotheni expressed her excitement by sharing the photo on her Instagram, giving Kabelo the recognition he deserves for his work.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Kabelo said she was “over the moon” and teary-eyed. She thanked Kabelo for the artwork, which reminded her of her late son, and mentioned that she planned to display the drawing in her living room for friends and family to see Kabelo’s amazing talent.

“It took me four days to complete the A2-sized masterpiece,” Kabelo shared.

Skhotheni encouraged him to keep pursuing his passion, assuring him that it would pay off in the end.
