Anti-GBV Awareness

In a powerful show of unity and purpose, Botshabelo residents are gathering this Friday, November 1st, at 11:00 AM in Section B for an awareness and prayer event. Organized by the Buang Banna free state forum, the event is set to address the urgent issue of gender-based violence (GBV) in the wake of Jeanette Mofokeng’s tragic killing a tragedy that has deeply affected the community and sparked calls for action.

Buang Banna’s initiative aims to open dialogues about the impact of violence in homes and neighborhoods while emphasizing positive ways to resolve conflicts. “Our goal is to help the community come together to support each other, heal, and find safer, more productive ways to handle conflict,” explained one of the organizers. The event hopes to rally everyone to contribute to creating a safer and more compassionate community.

This community-driven gathering will feature notable guest speakers, including:

MEC Mathabo Leeto from the Department of Social Development, who has been vocal about the need for social reforms,
Former Premier Sisi Ntombela, a strong advocate for women’s rights and community welfare, and
Mr. R. Mothupi, who has been involved in supporting community-building projects in the region.
Also expected are representatives from SAPS, Health Department, COSATU’s GBV Desk, SANCO, local councilors, and local church leaders, each pledging to support the event’s message of awareness and change.

Residents across Botshabelo and neighboring areas are encouraged to come out in full force, not only to honor Jeanette’s memory but to actively take part in promoting a brighter future for their families and community. Through this event, Buang Banna hopes to inspire more community engagement in addressing the causes of violence and fostering an environment where peaceful conflict resolution is the norm.

With the community’s support, this event could mark the beginning of meaningful change, shining a spotlight on the importance of compassion, understanding, and accountability.
