The Democratic Alliance in the Free State has welcomed the Marumo Gallants Soccer team’s move to the Free State province. The team will play its matches in Bloemfontein in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Werner Pretorius, the DA Spokesperson on Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation in the Free State reiterated that the residents of the Free State and the many adamant soccer lovers of the province have been calling for the return of a Free State-based Premier League soccer team for several years.
He mentioned that the Free State province has a rich history of delivering outstanding soccer players, team coaches, and even more extraordinarily loyal supporters.
“The economic and social value of the game of soccer, and sports in general, cannot be underestimated. The DA emphasizes the importance of sports in uplifting, empowering, and enriching the lives of our residents. Sports also play a major role in promoting healthy living, social cohesion, and nation-building. We trust that Marumo Gallants will also bring much-needed economic stimulus and entertainment to the province.” Said Werner.
The Democratic Alliance hopes to see the 7th Administration prioritize growth in the sporting, cultural, and tourism sector which has immense potential in the Free State. It has also called for investment in public infrastructure such as stadiums, roads, and transport networks as it will encourage more sporting teams and events in the province.
