While the rest of South Africa was impressed by the support the people of the Free State showed to Bafana Bafana during their match against Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium on 11 June, one DJ Look SA alleged that free tickets and transportation might have contributed to the full-capacity stadium Bafana Bafana played in front of.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, DJ Look SA wrote, “I think this free tickets and free ride must be done in all provinces including Gauteng, it can’t be done only in Free State and ANC must advertise all Bafana Bafana games like they did with this one. They must avoid the division amongst football supporters of Bafana Bafana. We love football all of us and with free tickets and busses, we can fill up FNB Stadium too in Gauteng. We all love Bafana Bafana.”

The DJ’s post was met with anger by Bloemfontein and Free State residents who had purchased tickets. They felt that DJ Look SA was implying that attendees of the match received free tickets and transportation.

Bloemfontein residents voiced their displeasure, stating that they had purchased tickets with their own money and found DJ Look SA’s comments to be extremely disrespectful to soccer-loving fans in Bloemfontein, who are known to be some of the most passionate supporters in the country, often spending their last cent to buy tickets.

Some individuals even referenced the days of Bloemfontein Celtic, when the stadium was filled with fans when Siwelele played, highlighting that soccer runs deep in the blood of the people of Bloemfontein. Upon posting his comments, the DJ was met with a heavy backlash and received numerous “051’s” directed at him.

There were calls for him not to be booked for events in Bloemfontein and the Free State, as he had disrespected the soccer-loving people of the Free State. Feeling the heat, DJ Look SA deleted his controversial post, but it was too late, as screenshots of the post circulated on social media, and the rage continued on his page.

On Wednesday, 12 June, he posted an apology, saying “Apologizing when you are wrong is always the right thing to do. Don’t make excuses, don’t try to blame others. Just apologize and take 100% responsibility for your actions.”

However, the DJ did not directly apologize for causing anger to the people of Bloemfontein. Instead, he directed his apology at “everyone whom he wronged and disrespected from the beginning of the year 2024.”

His attempt to apologize was rejected, and “051’s”  continued to be directed at him. It is still unclear whether DJ Look SA will directly apologize for his post that angered the soccer-loving people of the Free State.
