Former police officer, Lieutenant Colonel Salmina Khuthala Majingo (47), pleaded guilty to charges of fraud against her. She was sentenced to a fine of R60 000 or three years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years. In addition, Majingo was ordered to pay the money she took fraudulently back from the State.
Majingo was arrested on 28 June 2023 in Vereeniging for fraud. She was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in Kestell in 2012. Upon resuming duties in her new post, she did not reside in Kestell. Instead, she traveled in an official vehicle to and from work between Bethlehem and Kestell.
The Hawks Zweli Mohobeleli explained that, Months later, Majingo submitted a claim for resettlement costs to the amount of over R19 000 without having relocated to Kestell. The matter was referred to the Hawks’s Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Bloemfontein resulting in the arrest.
