Tumelo Boleme, known as Maeza in event circles, has been accused of allegedly scamming Khido’s Tavern in Hob House, Free State, after they allegedly paid him a deposit to book DJ Ngwazi.

Setlogelo Mozamo Andries, who paid on behalf of Khido’s Tavern, stated that they were planning to host an event featuring DJ Ngwazi on 8 March 2025.

Maeza allegedly provided them with an invoice that contained banking details belonging to Morata Media, which is supposedly and allegedly associated with DJ Ngwazi. Setlogelo noted that they received another invoice and processed a payment to it, only to later realize that the banking details on the invoice, in possession of Free State World, listed Maeza’s account number rather than an account tied to DJ Ngwazi.

Free State World saw two invoices that Maeza allegedly sent to Khido’s Tavern. Setlogelo believed that Maeza was acting as a middleman between him and DJ Ngwazi, facilitating everything needed for the booking. The invoiced quoted R8500 meant for DJ Ngwazi.

The invoices referenced DJ Ngwazi’s performance for a one-hour set on 8 March 2025, for the event named “Manje Clean,” which was to feature DJ Ngwazi as the headliner. The first invoice had a Wanitwa Mos logo, purportedly from the Master KG-owned label, as DJ Ngwazi is a recording artist under Wanitwa Mos.

It contained the FNB account number, branch code, and identified Morata Media as the account holder, with DJ Ngwazi listed as the reference. However, the second invoice specified Tumelo Boleme’s Capitec account number, still listing DJ Ngwazi as the reference.

Setlogelo explained that the money paid was a deposit for DJ Ngwazi, and Maeza alleged that DJ Ngwazi would confirm the booking with a video once he settled in Botswana, as he was allegedly in Botswana at the time.

Setlogelo provided Free State World with a voice note, allegedly from Maeza, stating that DJ Ngwazi was in Botswana. Upon further inquiry, Setlogelo learned that DJ Ngwazi was not in Botswana as claimed.

“DJ Ngwazi informed me that he was waiting for Maeza to give him the deposit, but he never went to Botswana and never mentioned anything about Botswana to Maeza,” Setlogelo said.

According to a voice note allegedly from DJ Ngwazi, he stated that he had not traveled to Botswana, had been available since 2 January, and was still waiting for Maeza to deposit the money. DJ Ngwazi reportedly lost patience when communication from Maeza ceased.

Setlogelo alleged that Maeza made excuses about being robbed and having problems with his phone. He mentioned that he had taken the matter to small claims court in an attempt to recover his money but was not assisted. He expressed his desire to obtain a refund.

Setlogelo shared his conversations with Maeza (allegedly) with Free State World, asserting that Maeza had scammed them and took the deposit meant for DJ Ngwazi. He confirmed that the Manje Clean event did not occur as planned on 8 March.

The owner of Khido’s Tavern is reportedly disappointed.

“After receiving the deposit, he claimed that his phone was broken and that he was using someone else’s phone. He expressed similar excuses to Palesa. Whenever he approaches tavern owners for business, he mentions artists like Mgarimbe, DJ Ngwazi, and Nkosazana Daughter. He quickly requests a deposit and often increases the amount once he sees that you have funds available,” Setlogelo stated.

Setlogelo further alleged that DJ Ngwazi informed him he had severed ties with Maeza due to ongoing allegations of scamming people. Setlogelo showed Free State World a letter of demand that he had sent to Maeza, which he claimed was later torn up by his mother.

It is also alleged that the owner of Khido’s Tavern fainted from stress brought on by this incident.

When contacted for a comment by Free State World, Maeza stated that Setlogelo left him in Thaba Nchu to go to Hob House to fetch money from the tavern owner. The tavern owner wanted to deposit money into DJ Ngwazi’s account, which allegedly included cash that Setlogelo had put in a plastic bag.

Maeza explained that they intended to deposit the money at the ATM, but it was reportedly out of service. Maeza told Setlogelo to allegedly leave with the money, and they were supposed to meet the following day, but they did not as Maeza had other obligations.

“He deposited R3000 into my account and instructed me to make a R1500 cash send to him, as well as to send R1000 to someone in Hob House. I was left with R500. That same day, he deposited R1500 into my account. The total I had was R2000. He then (allegedly) said we should each take R750,” Maeza said.

He showed Free State World a screenshot of the cash send dated 12 February for R1500. Maeza also alleged that Setlogelo instructed him to say certain things in a voice note, which was supposedly meant for Khido’s tavern owner.

He stated that Setlogelo had told him the owner would be coming to Thaba Nchu to see him, but the owner never arrived. There were discussions about the police possibly coming, but they did not show up either. Maeza claims to have proof regarding what happened to the money.

According to Maeza, after receiving the money, Setlogelo allegedly requested a R1500 cash send and insisted that Setlogelo be honest about what happened to Khido’s tavern owner’s money, claiming he (Setlogelo) had used it and should not involve him.

“I don’t understand whom he said he gave the money to, as he used it all and must face the truth without dragging me into the issue. I was informed that the owner was coming to Thaba Nchu and waited for her. I was even told she was coming with the police, and I questioned why she would go to the police station without talking to me first to hear my side regarding whether I intended to pay her or not,” Maeza stated.

He alleged that he only saw R3000 in cash when he met Setlogelo and denied any knowledge of the R4500 payment. Maeza claimed he was unaware of anything regarding the R4500 payment.

Maeza reiterated that Setlogelo should be honest with Khido’s owner, as he allegedly took R450 from him, claiming he needed the money to finish an electricity project in Botshabelo.

“I don’t know what he is referring to when he talks about R4500. After Free State World publishes the article, I intend to sue him. He can’t ruin my reputation like this,” Maeza asserted.

He mentioned that Setlogelo deposited R3000 into his account and then reportedly requested a R1500 cash send a few minutes after the money arrived. He also wanted R1000 to be sent to someone in Hob House, and later that same day, Setlogelo allegedly deposited R1500 back into Maeza’s account.

According to Maeza, he allegedly requested the contact information of the Khido’s tavern owner from Setlogelo, but did not receive it as it was claimed that the Hob House community was upset with him.

Maeza contended that Setlogelo did not want him to speak with the owner of Khido’s.

“I am still waiting for the owner to meet me. I did not take her money. I don’t understand what he means when he says I can’t be found or reached,” stated Maeza.

He added that Setlogelo mentioned he would bring the owner to meet Maeza in Thaba Nchu when she came to restock for her tavern, as going to Hob House might allegedly endanger his life, but the meeting never occurred.

Regarding the invoices, Maeza explained that DJ Ngwazi wanted R10,000, and during a video call with Ngwazi, which included the owner and Setlogelo, they negotiated the price from R10,000 to R8000. Maeza noted that DJ Ngwazi allegedly took three days to send the invoice.

“When Ngwazi sent the invoice, the money from Setlogelo was already gone, and I was waiting for him to complete his project on electricity so he could get paid and then pay DJ Ngwazi. He asked me to send a voice note stating that DJ Ngwazi was unavailable, which I did, as he was waiting for the payment from the project he was working on in Botshabelo,” Maeza explained.

When asked whether DJ Ngwazi was aware of the Hob House gig at Khido’s tavern, Maeza responded that Ngwazi allegedly knew about it and was waiting for payment.

Maeza clarified what went wrong between him and DJ Ngwazi, stating that he only confided in Setlogelo and insisted that what transpired between them remains private.

Regarding allegations of changing banking details on the invoice, Maeza denied altering any banking information and accused Setlogelo of doing so, alleging that Setlogelo wanted money to fund his electricity project.

Maeza alleged that it was Setlogelo’s idea to change the banking information and alleged that he asked him why he was not using his own bank account, telling Maeza that the owner of Khidos was familiar with his account.

“When the owner wanted to see the event poster, Setlogelo requested that I send him a voice note postponing the event to Easter, which he would suggest to the owner. I proposed that we use Mapara A Jazz instead and would pay them with riders and whatever money he might have, hoping to clear his name. However, he told me that the owner wanted nothing to do with me,” Maeza said.

He believes that Setlogelo is blocking him from communicating directly with the owner of Khido’s tavern.
