Ralikontsane exits the Provincial Government after 39 years of public service

The Director General (DG) of the Free State Provincial Government, Kopung Ralikontsane will leave the provincial government at the end of August 2024, following the end of his term of contract.

Ralikontsane assumed the role of the DG in 2013, having previously occupied the role of Head of the Department (HOD) for Local Government and Housing and later Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

 Over the years, Ralikontsane in his illustrious career occupied various leadership positions and has been involved in community development.

Ralikontsane has attended countless policy-driven and international conferences and seminars across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America, which focused on the betterment of the public sector. His longevity in government, spanning 39 years, has imprinted Ralikontsane as an ardent, committed, and resolute leader.

Ralikontsane started as a teacher in 1985. He played a critical role as part of a team of leadership during the transitional period before 1994, especially in the local government negotiations and transitional arrangements.

Ralikontsane became the first Chief Executive Officer of the Free State Local Government Association. Ralikontsane is currently a Member of the Council at the University of Free State (UFS).

Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae described Ralikontsane as a trusted and dependable anchor of the Free State Provincial Government.

“Ralikontsane has been a trusted and dependable anchor of the Free State Provincial Government. The imminent absence of his contribution and counsel will leave a gaping hole that will prove very difficult to fill. We wish him well in his future endeavors”, said Premier of the Free State, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae.
