Tumelo Tau, also known as Mopheme Sebata, is an up-and-coming artist from Ladybrand in the Free State. He started his musical journey in 2006 but gained recognition in 2010 with the release of his debut single, “Sebata ke champ.”

Sebata’s love for hip-hop and rap, combined with the cultural and social narratives of his surroundings, has been the driving force behind his music. He describes his music as being characterized by the use of metaphors, punchlines, and wordplay.

As a vernacular rapper, he considers himself a prominent figure in the Sotho-Hop and Tshepe movement. Through his lyrics, Sebata uses his music to express cultural and social themes, advocating for important narratives.

“My music is influenced by my life experiences, the environment I grew up in, and the work of notable artists in Lesotho such as Kommanda Obbs, Malome Vector, Papazi, and Ntate Stunna,” he explained.
