Ikgomotseng residents in Soutpan are livid about the scarcity of water in their area and complained that they have not had water allegedly for five days and their pleas are falling on deaf ears.

A resident who reached out to Free State World said the situation is dire as taps are dry and the five days without water have brought nothing but distress and anger.

According to the resident, on Thursday 29 February, a water truck arrived at night around 22:30, causing a commotion as residents had to rush to get buckets and many fought to be first in the queue.

The concerned resident further said they have not been told the reason for the dry taps as communication has been poor. Some residents who were asleep were woken up to get water.

The local clinic is said to have been affected by the water scarcity including schools in the area.

According to Mangaung Metro Municipality which Soutpan is part of, they are addressing the current water supply challenges affecting Soutpan and Ikgomotseng since Monday 26 February.

The municipality said the water supply interruptions are a result of an Eskom power failure.

Water tankers have been dispatched to Soutpan and Ikgomotseng while the municipality is sorting out power restoration from the Modder River Use Association and Eskom.
